Jim Jordan is a veteran media consultant with experience managing candidates and issue campaigns at every level of politics and government, from president to US Senate to state and local office.
Jim launched his political career in 1996 as Communications Director for Tim Johnson's winning United States Senate race. After moving to Washington, he worked as Communications Director for Senators Robert Torricelli and John Kerry, managed strategy and communications for the Democrats during the 1997 hearings on the Clinton re-election campaign's fundraising practices and advised Judiciary Committee Democrats during the 1998 impeachment hearings.
Over the next two election cycles, Jim served as Communications Director, Political Director, and finally as Executive Director of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. Under Jim's leadership, the Committee helped engineer the surprise six-seat pick up in 2000 and mitigate the political damage post-9/11 in the very difficult 2002 cycle. Jim managed John Kerry's political operation for more than five years, including the strategic planning during the run up to his 2004 presidential run. That culminated in Jim's service as Kerry's Campaign Manager until November of 2003.
Jim is founder of The Thunder Road Group, a strategic and communications shop where he has advised Democratic candidates at the House, Senate, gubernatorial, presidential and local levels. Over the years, Jim worked with two prominent Democratic media firms — GMMB and Shorr, Johnson, Magnus — as well as a bipartisan firm, Purple Strategies — performing strategic media and messaging for their clients. Jim has also worked with a variety of independent political efforts (527s, c-3 and 4 organizations, party committees, and independent expenditure programs), progressive interest groups, professional trade organizations, and corporations.
